The Cloisters...

Last Saturday, John and I traveled to the far northern reaches of Manhattan to visit the Cloisters which is a part of the Metropolitan Musuem of Art. I have read about the museum many times, but we never made the long journey from Midtown to 190th Street. This trip, we decided to take the plunge, and we are both glad that we did. The musuem is located in several acres of park called Fort Tyron Park. Being Fall, the trees were awash in reds, oranges, and yellows. The Cloisters sits on the highest part of the land overlooking the Hudson River. This gem of museum was a gift of the philantropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. Mr Rockefeller donated the necessary funds to the Met to acquire the medieval collection of George Grey Barnard. He also donated the land that forms Fort Tyron park as well as land in New Jersey directly across the Hudson River to safeguard the wonderful views from the Cloisters.
